South Korean shipping company LS Marine Solution has signed a contract with Tersan Shipyard in Turkey for the construction of a custom-built cable laying vessel, designed by Salt Ship Design.
The vessel is developed with a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, incorporating the latest technologies to minimize its environmental footprint during operations.
Key sustainable features include a hybrid propulsion system with battery integration for peak shaving and spinning reserve backup during dynamic positioning (DP) operations. The ship’s mission equipment is fully electric and designed to regenerate power back to the vessel during cable laying activities, enhancing overall energy efficiency.
To reduce onboard energy consumption, a state-of-the-art HVAC system with heat recovery has been selected for the accommodation areas. The diesel-electric propulsion system features six generator sets, allowing the vessel’s automatic power management system to continuously select the most fuel-efficient engine combination, further cutting emissions.
Technical features;
Measuring 148.4 meters in overall length and 31 meters in breadth, the vessel is a large-scale high voltage direct current (HVDC) laying vessel with a cable loading weight of 13,000 tonnes.
Capable of simultaneously laying high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables and fiber optic cables, it will become one of only a few vessels globally with this advanced capability.
The vessel will be the largest in Asia and will be equipped to lay both HVDC underwater cables and optical cables simultaneously.
For Salt, this represents a very important contract in a strategic important market.
The new cable laying vessel will add up to the order book of more than 30 Salt-designed vessel under construction.
