Salt Ship Design is pleased to be entrusted with the complete design of Marco Polo Marine’s next-generation CSOV Plus, a purpose-built Commissioning Service Operation Vessel engineered for high-performance operations in both offshore wind and oil & gas environments. The project represents Salt’s first direct design contract with Marco Polo Marine/PKR Offshore and Marco Polo Shipyard, following an extensive concept development phase carried out jointly with the client.
The CSOV Plus is designed to deliver superior station-keeping, motion characteristics, and operational flexibility. The hull form and propulsion configuration have been optimized for low resistance, high DP performance which enables the vest to do safe walk-to-work operations in significant wave heights up to 3.0 m. The vessel integrates a state-of-the-art gangway system, positioned to ensure optimal reachability and accessibility for offshore wind commissioning campaigns.
A key engineering focus has been future-proofing the vessel’s energy system. The design incorporates a battery-hybrid power arrangement with provisions for alternative fuels including methanol, enabling substantial reductions in fuel consumption and emissions while ensuring compliance with upcoming regulatory requirements. System layout, machinery integration, and energy management architecture have been arranged to maintain high operational reliability and rapid response under DP conditions.
To accommodate the increasing complexity of offshore wind and subsea operations, the vessel features a 100-tonne AHC offshore crane with extended outreach, as well as expansive deck area engineered for modular project equipment and heavy cargo loads. A flexible cargo transfer system with 3 tonnes lifting capacity and full 3D motion compensation ensures safe and efficient offshore logistics.
Across the design, Salt has prioritized robustness, maintainability, building friendly and lifecycle efficiency, ensuring the vessel can support the full spectrum of commissioning, maintenance, cable work, and subsea operations. The CSOV Plus embodies Salt’s commitment to delivering technically advanced vessels with high environmental performance and operational reliability.
