The new "Gitte Henning"

Gitte Henning AS in Skagen, Denmark, has ordered a new large pelagic midwater trawler/ purse seiner based on a design from Salt Ship Design in Stord, Norway. The new fishing vessel will be built by Kleven at Myklebust Yard, in Gursken, Norway, and will be delivered from the shipyard in 2017.

The 90,5 metres fishing vessel has a beam of 17,8 metres and a carrying capacity of 3600 cum in RSW tanks. Gitte Henning is extremely well equipped with RSW cooling capacity of approx. 4000 kW. The vessel can operate in full diesel electrical mode, in diesel mechanical mode or in a combined hybrid mode. Totally 7720 kW on a 5 metres propeller gives a bollard pull of more than 130 tonnes.

We are very pleased with a new contract so quickly after Salt in September this year signed its first contract in fisheries. Being assigned another large fishing vessel less than two months later is more than we expected, says Egil Sandvik at Salt Ship Design. Salt Ship Design will deliver a complete design and engineering package for the new fishing vessel.

Henning Kjeldsen has been working closely with Salt for several months to develop a vessel tailored for his quotas and the areas where the vessel will operate. This has resulted in a very effective, green and modern fishing vessel – and being more than 90 meters long she will become a giant in her segment.

This represents a very important contract, which adds to an already good order book. Salt has currently 16 vessel designs under construction at Norwegian and foreign shipyards. Unlike the current offshore market, fisheries and fish farming are doing very well and these segments represents an increasingly important market for Salt.
